WordPress is not the future of web development

Local agencies love WordPress because everyone knows the name. Most popular. Easy to sell. Easy to staff.

Popular does not mean it is the future. For trade websites, WordPress is outdated logic wearing a fresh theme.

Outdated logic

WordPress was built as a blogging tool. Then the industry bolted shops, forms, galleries, SEO packs, and page builders on top of it. That is not elegant. That is a pile.

Every extra feature is usually another plugin. Another author. Another update. Another way for the site to get slow or break.

Modern web development does not need that circus. You build what the business needs, keep it lean, and ship it fast. Especially for a local trade site that has one job: get the phone to ring.

Generally slow by nature

I am not saying every WordPress site is unusable. I am saying the default path is heavy. Themes. Builders. Plugins. Scripts fighting each other on a customer's phone.

Your next job is on a phone. If the page takes forever, they ring the next lad. Speed is not a vanity score. It is money.

I care about speed because I built the stack myself. Not because I bought a "speed plugin" to paper over a slow foundation.

The maintenance trap

Agencies will tell you every website needs constant maintenance, like a car MOT. What they often mean is: our WordPress sites need plugin updates, theme updates, security patches, and someone on the clock when it breaks.

That is them selling you the aftercare for a product that demands aftercare.

My sites still get looked after. Hosting. Security. Changes by email. Support in the monthly fee. What you are not paying for is babysitting someone else's plugin list forever.

"You can edit it yourself" is not a favour

They sell you the dashboard as freedom. For most tradesmen it is unpaid evening work after a full day on the tools.

You forget the login. The builder moved. A button vanished. Suddenly you are learning a page builder when you should be quoting a job.

That is not empowerment. Email me the change. I do it. That is the point of fully managed.

What I build instead

Custom sites on a platform I own. Fast. Clear. Built for phones. Edited by me. No WordPress admin. No plugin lottery.

WordPress will still be around. Plenty of agencies will still sell it. That does not make it the future for the kind of websites I build for local trades.
